for Windows
This HTML editor is, or was, the most powerful and flexible tool for building, testing, and deploying Web content. (And it still is for me!) Created for Web developers, it's appropriate for people who want full control over their coding and design environment. (What is really being said is; IF you want your code to be in a readable format then use Homesite. Most of these WSYSIWYG editors leave your code in a scrambled hard to read format.)
From WineHQ HomeSite is Macromedia's HTML editor that lets you build Web sites. Using HomeSite allows you to maintain pure HTML while integrating with many leading web technologies such as JSP, CFML, and WML. Created by Web developers for Web developers, HomeSite gives you total design flexibility and control over the quality and performance of your entire site.
It went from Author Nick Bradbury(1995) to Allaire(1997) to Macromedia(2001) to Adobe(2006) and finally to the bit bucket(2009). When I first started with Homesite it was "owned" by Nick. Right now I am still using it with no real plans to retire it.( even though I am going to get ... got ... TopStyle4) Just as a note; TopStyle Lite versions 2 through 3.5 were used inside Homesite.
Its main features...- Editing - access local and remote files, insert and convert files, set bookmarks, automatically convert special characters. In fact, the built-in editor is the best multi-purpose editor I've ever seen. The Extended Find and Replace command across multiple documents and with regular expressions is a great tool that can reduce hours of manual editing to mere clicks.
- Tag Inspector - edit HTML codes in a customizable property sheet interface.
- Browsers - preview Web pages in multiple browsers, automatic detection of installed browsers.
- Templates and Wizards - quickly create basic pages, tables, frames, JavaScript and DHTML elements, and synchronized RealAudio content.
- Style Editor - easily create, edit, preview, and link Cascading Style Sheets.
- Proofing and Testing tools - maintain site content with search and replace, spell checking, code validation, and link verification.
- Snippets - With code snippets, you can easily store code blocks and content for
reuse. Comment your snippets just as you would any code block. I am adding in this part to the
list cause I think that the snippets are really great. You can have some simple or complex coding
entered with just a simple double click on your snippet.

The following is how to use Homesite on Windows 7 and Windows Vista. I found this on the Adobe Homesite Forum.
Special - March 31, 2012/1:40pm Ok. We have a new Laptop. An HP dm4-2165DX. It has 64-bit Windows 7 installed -and- all the fixes and updates till now. We had installed avast! and Ad-Aware right up front for protection. However, we could not insall Homesite. It kept complaining about an "Installshield" and an "iKernel.exe". Turned out we had to disable avast! while we were installing Homesite. We did, specifying it to stay disabled till we re-booted. After installation finished we re-booted and avast! was back in business.
Problems, problems, problems... After installation the icon Toolbars in Homesite did NOT show up!! After much fuddling and re-installing we were able to finally get them back. Right AFTER installation and BEFORE exiting the FIRST execution of Homesite we need to select the Toolbars. For some reason, right clicking in the Toolbar area does NOT work AFTER the first execution. We were able to right click and get the dialogs displayed -but- they were not in the Toolbar locations. They were floating, which is one of the Homesite options -but- we wanted them locked in. In order to do that, you must click on the Title Bar for each. We finally got some semblance of order and will now have to test its operation. -But- first we need to get our Local Pretend Apache setup. This determines the location of our files and allows local execution.
There is a known issue that programs may be unable to access some network locations with User Account Control in Windows Vista and Windows 7 because network shares that are mapped are shared with the standard user access token instead of with the full administrator access token.
To resolve this problem, please try to configure the EnableLinkedConnections registry value:
1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box,
and then press ENTER.
2. Locate and then right-click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\Policies\ System
3. Point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
4. Type EnableLinkedConnections, and then press ENTER.
5. Right-click EnableLinkedConnections,
and then click Modify.
6. In the Value data box (hexadecimal),
type 1, and then click OK.
7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.
And this one is for Vista from the same loction. Well, close to it. It was a different message. -But- as it turns out, it is for Windows 7 also!!

Configuring HomeSite for JavaScript
There are some javascript-related HomeSite add-on's at my site, written by other HS users.

March 17th, 2011 Win2k does NOT understand anything higher than IE6 (Internet Explorer 6). I have started using things that are beyond it... sooo... we have to change the Browser that is used inside Homesite. Naturally, I chose Firefox.
Now then, in order to run Firefox
inside Homesite,
as the default, it appears that I need to install
XULRunner
(xulrunner-1.9.2.10.en-US.win32.zip was used)
in the
"Program Files\XULRunner" dir and then execute:
"regsvr32.exe mozctlx.dll"
from a command window. This is neccessary in Win2K, Win Vista
and Win7. Now down below, in a note
that never got finished, I mentioned something about changing permissions on some registry keys.
Well... I didn't. It still ran Firefox.
At least in the reloaded openSuSE 11.4
VMware Host with Win2k as Guest.

TopStyle4
TopStyle 3.5 was released on October 15, 2007
TopStyle 4 was released on May 31, 2009. Wiki Description
Now then, as mentioned above, I have been a long time user of Homesite. It has served me well and I am just finding out that I really never used all its attributes. I, like many, sometimes only use what I need, and/or understand, at the time. IF it serves the purpose then that is usually enough. Since this editor is code centric, like Homesite, and it has the same original author, I will probably adapt to it faster than anything else available. The only reasons that I am moving from Homesite to this one is for some of the new features of XHTML and CSS and... it is supposed to help convert to these new technologies. (More after I purchase and use it.)
Installation:
This was NOT an easy task. Leastwise in order to get Firefox as one of the Browsers integrated. Really should say the Gecko Engine. The followig steps were necessary for installation in my Windows 2000 Virtual System.
- System: Microsoft Windows 2000 Version 5.0 (build 2195: Service Pack 4)
- Brought down and installed TopSyle 4.
- Downloaded: xulrunner-1.9.en-US.win32.zip and xulrunner-1.9.2.10.en-US.win32.zip
- Unzipped xulrunner-1.9.2.10.en-US.win32.zip into C:\Program Files\XULRunner
- Changed to the dir and executed regsvt32.exe mozctlx.dll
It failed with a 0x8002801c error. - Dumped xulrunner-1.9.2.10.en-US.win32.zip and tried xulrunner-1.9.en-US.win32.zip
It also failed with a 0x8002801c error. - Searched the Web and found that I possibly had to change permissions on some registry keys. This
We made the purchase(s)...

Top The kdewebdev package contains Quanta Plus and other applications which are useful for web development.
Quanta runs on KDE and excels at PHP with auto completion including scoped variables on linked pages, a structure tree, live dynamic data preview, templates, full network transparency for projects and files, tagging according to selected DTD, DTD importing, XML tools, plugins, visual dialog builder and scripting tools and more. It even has a visual HTML edit mode. Development is underway for integrating a deep embedded universal debugger interface and object syntax completion.
Well we found a newer version - kdewebdev-4.7.3.tar.bz2. It claims that Quanta Plus is buried in there. Need to check it out.
Quanta is a web development environment based off of KDE. So it offers all the support and functionality of KDE within it, including site management and FTP capabilities. Quanta can be used to edit XML, HTML, and PHP as well as other text based web documents.
Top Kompozer is an Open Source web development tool built on NVU. The project strives to fix bugs in the NVU project and add new features to it. Both the HTML editor as well as the CSS editor have so far been fixed and updated as part of the Kompozer project - and many more changes are scheduled. Apart from that the main feature set is exactly as in NVU. And one of the most important features is still that editing take place in WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) mode allowing you full control of layout as you work with your web design.
This is supposed to be a Cross-Platform piece of software. I have only played with the Linux version.

Paint Shop Pro 9 I was looking for something else and found this advertised on e-bay for $4.99!! Wow! Wow!! I could not pass up an update like that! EZ Thumbs
Easy Thumbnails is a popular free Windows utility for creating accurate thumbnail images and scaled-down/up copies from a wide range of popular picture formats. An elegant interface makes it a snap to find your images and select them for processing individually, in groups, or in whole folders, using a simple file selector and built-in image viewer. You can use slider controls to rotate images and adjust their contrast, brightness, sharpness and quality, and check out the results with the built-in viewer.
And just in case you didn't understand, you can make the thumbnails any size you want. The defaults in the settings are/were 200px x 200px. It also has a default name Prefix of "tn_" which is kinda nice. The new Thumbnail gets saved with the original pic and there is no name conflicts. -But- because it is almost the same name, you can find it easily. Needless to say I am very happy with the program. Annnndddd... the price was fabulous!!
